Part XV | Hiva Oa | The Scarlet Macaw
The Raven

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
Only this and nothing more.”

Later, Tala was set free and allowed to return to her cabin room on The Scarlet Macaw. Tala was supposed to meet her intended when she arrived in London. She simply had no idea she would be gone this long, and now she was out to sea again on The Scarlet Macaw.
Tala tried to remember what had happened just before she rubbed the lamp. Their sailing ship had set sail from what she had called the Island of the Turquoise Seas, and a small island the shape of a seahorse. When Tala checked The Scarlet Macaw's maps by lamplight, she saw that someone had printed neatly on the map in small black script next to the green, seahorse shaped island, Hiva Oa, The Marquesas, French Polynesia. The Bay of Traitors, created by the largest caldera on Hiva Oa, was on the southwestern part of the island, just above the seahorse's snout, and Puamau Bay, [6] created by the second largest caldera on the island, was located on the north coast near the seahorse's tail. Tala decided to update her own maps with the new information. When she finished, Tala rolled up her maps, stowed them away in a trunk, dipped her quill in the small ink pot, and began to write.
